Carencro heads to State Championship after dominant win

On a cold, winter night, No. 1 Carencro lit up the field against No. 4 Neville in the 4A semifinals at the Cro Dome in Carencro, Louisiana Friday night.

The Cro Dome, Carencro High’s home stadium, on Friday night for the LHSAA 4A semifinals.

The Golden Bears started the game how they ended it; ecstatic and methodical. The Neville Tigers could not stop the might of Carencro’s offensive line or prevent the number of turnovers that plagued their chances at victory.

The Tigers committed their first of many mistakes before their opening drive, muffing a punt return which resulted in the first of Carencro’s senior running back Kendrall Williams’ touchdowns. Following the score, Neville’s quarterback Brett Batteford threw an interception, resulting in another Williams’ rushing touchdown. On the next drive, the Tigers threw another interception leading to a receiving touchdown by Williams before the end of the first quarter.

#10 senior running back Traylon Prejean bullies his way into the end zone to take an early 27-0 lead over No. 4 Neville.

The Golden Bears started and nearly finished the second quarter with the same fire they left the previous quarter, except this time more methodical. Carencro’s second running back, senior Traylon Prejean, scored his first rushing touchdown with under three minutes left in the half, the Golden Bears using close to 11 minutes on the opening drive.

Neville only had an answer for Carencro’s onslaught, in the third quarter after a fifth score by the Golden Bears. Following the receiving touchdown by the Tigers’ Billquarius Goodin, Carencro resumed on offense where they left off. By the end of the night, Williams had amounted four of Carencro’s seven scores.

The Golden Bears will return to the State Championship to face an opponent who is known to shutdown all awaiting teams on their title run; No. 2 Edna Karr.
