Diamond In The Rough: Chase Hendricks

Chase Hendricks is a Wide Receiver in the Class of 2023 for St. Mary’s High School in Saint Louis, Missouri. With a build of 5’11” and 185lbs., Hendricks has become a nightmare for opposing defenses with his incredible speed and quickness. His ability to explode off the snap and make separation from the defense is next level, once he gets into open field, nobody is able to catch him. If you are able to keep up with him, good luck tackling him, his agility and shiftiness in open field makes him nearly impossible to tackle and take down. Hendricks is a very unselfish player and takes pride in his blocking ability as he is often seen walling off defensive players allowing his team to progress downfield. Hendricks is only a sophomore in high school and has already proved that he is an elite player and should be a player to look out for in the future.

When did you start playing football and why? I started playing football when I was 5, my older brother got me into it, when I was younger, I would go to his practices and just throw the ball around and then I fell in love with the sport.

Favorite moment of your career so far? When I was 13, we won a Super Bowl and I had 2 Touchdowns. In the first half of the game, I was wearing one pair of cleats and the ref called back a touchdown and so I changed cleats at half, and we won. It was also like a revenge game because they beat us the season before.

What current or past player do you think you play like the most? I would have to say like DK Metcalf, with my size, Odell with the routes, and Jarvis Laundry, I think we play similar.

Do you play any sports outside of football, and what do you think you adds to your game? Basketball, I think it helped with my IQ, in basketball you have to see the court, it also helps with stamina.

Do you have any pre-game rituals? I try to get skittles before every game.

Going into your Junior season, what are you looking forward to? I’m looking forward to winning state, this year I think we got robbed because of Covid, so next year I think we are winning state. I want 1000 yards 20+ touchdowns and more college offer.

Do you have a quote or anything that pushes you daily? “No matter how you feel during the day, the sun will always rise in the morning”

What do you think a college would get out of you as a player? They are going to get a good blocker, I’m not selfish, they will always get my 100%.

What motivates you to get up and train every day? I think of my mom, I know she gets up and works hard so I do the same thing.

What do you think makes you a good teammate? I’m a good blocker, I help my boys out on the field, if they are doing something wrong, I try to pick them up and help them, and If they don’t know a play, I will help them out with that.

Who has pushed you most in your football journey? My dad.

What do you think sets you apart from other athletes? I think I view the game different; some people think of it as playing, I think of it as a way out.

What do you think the best part of your game is? My route running and separation, my hand, I can catch anything my way.

Would you consider yourself a possession, speed, or route running specialist? I would consider myself a route running specialist, I can do it all and I’m working on my speed, but I think right now I’m more route running specialist.

Do you prefer to be pressed by the DB or not? It doesn’t matter to me; I always win the route.

Favorite route? Out of the slot I would say a seam or crosser, on the outside I like post routes.

Inside or outside routes? I can play both, but I think I like outside more.

Best catch you have made in game? In my freshman year, we were down in the game, I had a hitch and go, and it was an outside throw, I tracked it down, caught it, reached for the pylon and scored.

What are you thinking pre-snap? I’m thinking about their coverage, looking at their safety, then I’m looking at the corner depending on if they are outside or inside. When I’m at the slot I look at the linebackers, I just look at the defense.

Favorite part of playing receiver? Scoring touchdowns and making big catches, and amping the crowd up.
