Diamond In The Rough: Jeremy Sowell

Jeremy Sowell is a 6’1″ 175 pound cornerback out of Captain Shreve High School in Shreveport, Louisiana. Sowell is a 4 star rated at an 8.8. He has a great speed as is always aggressive on the field. His cover skills are solid and vision of the field is impressive. Sowell’s hands are also top tier, along with his strength. Sowell is also on the basketball and track & field team. He takes pride in his straight A’s at Captain Shreve High, giving him a 3.9 gpa.

At what age did you begin playing football and what motivated you to play this sport?

I started playing football around 4th grade year. I was living in Oklahoma as I am a military brat. I moved from city to city a lot. I started playing football as it was just fun, especially with all of my friends. It also helped me get a lot of my anger out.

What excites you about being a cornerback?

I love when I have to play 1-on-1 with a wide receiver and we guard each other.

What has been the highlight of your career?

I would say in a good against Woodlawn when I had my first interception.

What goals do you have for your senior season?

Personally, I want to get my first pick six. I also want to lead the cornerbacks in the most interceptions in a single season, and have the most tackles.

How would your teammates and coaches describe you?

They would describe me as humble, hype and energetic. I do not say much on the field unless a wide receiver says something to me. They know I am patient and I do not try to rush anything.

What has football taught you about yourself or life?

It has taught me patience. Every will not happen at once, you have to wait for it.

What has been your favorite thing about playing football in Louisiana?

I can say that we always have fun out here. We can go hard against each other, but at the end of the days we can all still be friends

What would you bring to a college team and what are you looking for out of one?

I would bring a player with height and a good speed I am also very smart and can read plays and routes very well. I am looking for a program I can grow with and show my best.

How do you balance school work and football?

Schoolwork always comes first. I am a straight A student My parents always told me school comes before anything. After I go to work and practice, I make sure to get my schoolwork done.

Three words to describe yourself are?

Smart, humble and hype.

How do you prepare for upcoming games?

For upcoming games, I study the other team. I watch a lot of film on them, with my team and on my own. I look at the best wide receiver to see how I can guard him.

How do you handle wins and losses?

Wins keep me humble. I can’t be too happy about them as there’s more games to get through. For losses, I evaluate what I could have done better to help my team win.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years, I want to have my college degree.

What would you like to get your degree in?

I want to get my degree in Accounting or Business Management.

Do you have a favorite NFL or College Athlete?

I do not have a favorite NFL athlete, but my favorite team is the New Orleans Saints. My favorite college team is LSU.

Any hobbies outside of sports?

I hang out with my friends and family a lot and have fun. I play NBA 2k20 and Fortnite sometimes.
