Diamond In The Rough: Ketrick Owens

Ketrick Owens is a Strong Safety from Baton Rouge, LA that attends Woodlawn High School. A Class of 2022 High School Junior, Owens has 1 more spectacular Senior Season to show Collegiate scouts and coaches that he is worthy of playing on Saturday’s. He’s not selling himself short, he knows what is needed out of him to pique the interest of coaches and scouts and he plans to do just that. A capable and cerebral young man, I had the pleasure of interviewing the prospect and he showed signs of potential as he spoke to me about his upcoming Senior Season and how he plans to “wow” spectators that attend his games. Ketrick is a multi-sport athlete as he also plays for the Woodlawn Panthers Basketball team. I look forward to seeing if Owens keeps his word about his upcoming Senior Season. I can attest that Ketrick has a chip on his shoulder and wants to prove the doubters wrong as he takes the college spotlight by storm.

At what age did you begin playing football and what motivated you to play? I started playing football when I was 5 and I immediately fell in love with the game.

What has football taught you about life and yourself in general once you started playing? It taught me how to fail and that you aren’t going to succeed at everything in life.

Are you a leader on your team? If so, have you been able to bring any of those leadership skills from the field to your everyday life? I would say that I’m a leader on my team. I help my teammates keep their head up, when we are down and give them tips if they mess up.

As a leader on your team, you must be a role model for your underclassmen teammates? Can you tell me some advice that you would give to your teammates who look up to you as a leader on the team? I would tell them to never let somebody say that they can’t do anything. I’d tell them to chase their dreams.

Who is a role model in the NFL (at your position) that you feel reflects your game? At my position, I have always loved Kam Chancellor and Jamal Adams.

What was your biggest highlight/play so far in your High School career? I would say the forced fumble that I caused against Live Oak HS, to stop them from scoring the go-ahead touchdown in 10th Grade.

What can you tell me about next season then, your Senior season? What’s your main goal? My senior season I want go out with a bang by chasing a State Championship.

So outside of football, do you play any other sports or are you in anything other clubs? Do you have any hobbies? I play basketball for my school and I love to play video games.

What kind of player would they be getting out of you if they choose to recruit you to their school? A hard-working, competitive player, who does everything in their power to win.
