Diamond in The Rough: Nathan Vail

Nathan Vail is a class of 2022 strong and free safety for Harrison high school in Kennesaw, GA. Nathan is 6’2, weighs 185lbs, and has a 3.4 GPA. He runs a 4.65 40 yard dash, benches 275lbs, squats and deadlifts 420lbs, and can bench 185lbs thirteen times. Nathan does a great job navigating the field, playing sticky man coverage, and laying big hits. He reads and navigates the field like a safety, covers like a corner, and hits like a linebacker. When watching his film, the first thing you’ll notice is his ability to sniff out plays and put himself in position to make a play.

How long have you been playing football? Since second grade.

Do you play any other sports? I throw discus for track.

Why do you choose to play safety? I feel like at safety you get the most action and it’s so diverse in what you can do for the defense.

Do you prefer playing strong or free safety? Strong.

Most rewarding part about playing safety? Coming up from space and making tackles.

Can you play any other positions? If I got bigger I’d be a good linebacker.

Is there a player you can compare yourself to? Jamal Adams.
