Diamond in the Rough: Terron Harang

Terron Harang is a 5’10 160 lb defensive back out of John Ehret High School in Marrero, Louisiana. Studying Terron’s film, it was immediately evident that he has a nose for the football. He tracks down plays and always places himself in position to challenge receivers when the ball is near. Terron is an excellent open field tackler, as he cut down nearly every runner to come his way this past season. Aside from the football field, Terron maintains a 3.0 GPA and participates as a track athlete for the Patriots. Terron is looking forward to having his most productive season yet, while also continuing to become a better player in the process.

When did you start playing football and what initially stood out to you about the game?

I started playing for Woodmere Park when I was 5 years old. I loved touching the ball because I knew I could do anything with it. That’s what made me fall in love with the game.

You say you loved touching the ball. Did you start out on offense?

I started out at RB. I transferred to DB my freshman year and I actually prefer playing DB. I can line up at cornerback or safety.

How do you feel you’ve improved since making the switch to the defensive side of the ball your freshman year?

When I first switched to Cornerback I was uncomfortable. As the year went on, I became more and more confident playing the position. That translated into me becoming better all around as a DB.

What has been your most exciting high school football memory so far?

I caught my first pick against East Jefferson. My first past breakup against Mandeville my freshman year was also exciting. My team got hype and just hearing “Terron Harang” on the announcements is something I’ll always remember.

Any other sports you grew up playing or currently play?

I grew up playing basketball. Right now, I run track, participating in the 100m, 4×1, and 4×2. I suffered an ankle injury, so I hadn’t been able to participate recently.

How did the injury happen and are you recovering well?

I injured it playing in a 7 on 7 tournament. It is feeling better and better day by day so I’ll definitely be back soon and stronger than ever.

What do you feel sets you apart from so many other talented DBs in the state of Louisiana?

Most guys only can play corner or safety. My versatility allows me to line up at either position and make an impact, whether its SS, FS, or even as a nickel back.

Any NFL or college players you feel remind you of yourself in their style of play?

Tyrann Mathieu. He has similar size, he’s versatile in his ability to line up at CB, FS, SS, and OLB. He’s just an all-around great player that I try to model my game after.

Who has been your biggest motivator for playing the game of football?

My uncle. He put me on the football field and got me on my first team.

In what ways do you try to be a leader to your teammates?

I try to do the small things on and off the field to serve as an example for the underclassman.

Any life lessons you feel you’ve learned from playing the game of football?

Loyalty and brotherhood. Playing the game of football, I’ve met guys that I now consider family. You’re never suppose to switch on your teammates, your brothers.

What do you hope your coaches and teammates say about you once your high school career comes to an end?

That I was a great player at John Ehret. How I set an example on and off the field. Hopefully all positive reviews.
