Diamond in the Rough: Troy Porter

Troy Porter is an offensive lineman for Madison Prep Academy in Baton Rouge, La. The class of 2021 recruit stands at a gargantuan 6’7 and weighs in at a hefty 309 pounds. Porter can be seen driving opponents down field several yards on run plays or dumping a would-be blitzing linebacker on passing plays. Troy played the left tackle and left guard spot for Madison Prep this past season, a season in which they had one of the best passing attacks in Louisiana. Porter looks to have solidified the left tackle position and will be the anchor along the offensive line going into his senior season. Troy has a 405 pound deadlift, 375 pound squat and currently has a 3.0 GPA.

When did you start playing football?

I was like eight, it was a like a pee-wee league. It wasn’t one of those travel leagues though.

Did you always play on the offensive line or did you play any other positions?

I played offensive line and defensive line.

Going back to last season, what were some of your goals?

My goals were literally advancing to a state championship, getting more film, and having our running backs get more rushing yards.

Who would you say some of your biggest influences are?

My biggest influences I’d say would be Trent Williams, the way he plays and the way he moves. Also, LeBron James, the way he gives back to the community. The way he built a whole school, I like the way he did that. Those are my two biggest influences.

Would you say Trent Williams is also your favorite NFL player?

I think so, yes sir.

On a scale of 1-10 what would you say your ideal game day performance number would be?

Ideally I’d say an eight or a nine, more like a nine. Because I know I might mess up here and there, but when I am on a roll, I am on a roll and I feel like I can’t be stopped. You can’t get around me.

What motivates you the most?

My mom, and really my uncle. Before my uncle died, he told me I needed to be an achiever, so I always strive to be an achiever. So if I make it to the NFL, with my paycheck, I’m going give back and be an achiever. So that’s why I say my uncle.

What are some of the strongest aspects of your game?

I feel like my pass blocking, and my zone blocking are great. But really honestly everything

During this pandemic, what have you been doing to keep yourself in football shape?

I’ve been doing some sand work, and cone work. Getting up early in the morning and doing drills.

What are your expectations for the near future and this upcoming season?

We have some new coaches, and we are doing a whole lot. Our O-line is going to be doing a whole lot this year too. I feel like I will be seeing a lot of scholarships too, because I am trying to go to school for free.
