Iota Bulldogs Hungry for 2017 Season

As the 2017 Fall football season kicks off, the Iota Bulldogs are locked and loaded with players and talent. Many of which are young but according to defensive coordinator, Coach Ray Aucoin, they are young and hungry. With approximately 8 starters returning on offense and defense, the Bulldogs are ready to apply pressure to their competition.

According to Coach Ray, the Bulldogs’ practices have been productive and judging by practice they have a promising season ahead of them. Aside from practices, the Bulldogs played South Beauregard, who came off of an 8-2 season back in May for their Spring game. Coach Ray said, “If this is any indication of what the season has in store, then we’re excited because we matched up pretty good.” Watch Spring game highlights below.

The Bulldogs have young linemen on both sides of the ball and Coach Ray believes for them, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. On offense, Kaleb Guillory is returning. Kaleb is an all-state running back who ran for about 1,600 yards last year. The Iota Bulldogs also have 3 quarterbacks lined up that played significantly last year due to injuries. However, this season’s starter will be Trae Rambin. In addition to Trae Rambin, the Bulldogs have Kameron Aucoin as a backup quarterback. Kameron stepped up as quarterback last year, when Trae Rambin got injured but he will be starting as a free safety on defense, which was his initial position.

Coach Ray Aucoin said “defensively we’re right where we want to be.” With three returning linebackers and cornerback Mitchell Lege who lead the team in interceptions, the Bulldogs are stacked with talent and ready to eat. Defensive end, Kalem Johnson had an outstanding 8 sacks last season and is expected to go just as hard this year. Another player who showed up and showed out last season is middle linebacker, Levi Manuel who lead the team with 105 tackles. Coach Ray said these guys are smart and some are big as well, which helps out. Therefore, he had to mention first team all-district offensive lineman, Juwan Felix who is a junior, 6’1” and 290lbs.

Coach Ray said, “We’re in the mindset that the young men that we started here with, when we got to Iota, are growing up so we’re really excited to see what they will and can do. These men are hungry defensively. Even when we go head to head and scrimmage in practice, the offense sometimes has trouble taking the defense on and vice versa. So, we should have a pretty nice balance of football this coming year for Iota and hopefully it is a good balance. We’ll try to keep the offense on the field as much as possible.”

This coming Thursday, the Iota Bulldogs will face Westminster in Iota, which is a team that the Bulldogs view as a physical test to what the season has in store. Let’s Go BULLDOGS!
