LA Tech Bulldogs pull a 54-17 win over Southern Jaguars

Louisiana Tech’s Joe Aillet Stadium in Ruston, LA was filled with energetic and vocal crowds for both the Bulldogs and the Jaguars this Louisiana Saturday night. The 22,926 attendees to tonight’s game attentively waited through today’s thunderstorms to come out and support their teams and show school pride. Head Coach for the Bulldogs Skip Holtz (6thseason as Head Coach) and Head Coach for the Jaguars Dawson Odums (7thseason as Head Coach) brought their teams prepared and geared to play an exhilarating and physical game.

At the coin toss the Jaguars won and chose to defer until the second half. To start off the scoring action for the evening with 11:41 seconds left in the first quarter Israel Tucker had a 1 yard run for the first touchdown of the game followed by Bailey Hale kicking for the extra point, LA Tech 7, Southern 0. Not long after with 10:05 left in the first quarter the Bulldogs are back at it again with Jaqwis Dancy’s 25 yard run for another touchdown and Bailey Hale’s kick is good, LA Tech 14, Southern 0. With 5:22 left in the first quarter J’Mar Smith runs for a 19-yard touchdown followed by Hale’s extra point, LA Tech 21, Southern 0. Hungry to get points on the board Southern strikes back at the Bulldogs with 1: 24 seconds left with K. Catalon’s 38 yard pass from J. Lampley for their first touchdown of the game followed with a successful kick by C. Barajas, LA Tech 21, Southern 7. At the end of the first quarter the Bulldogs held up the Jaguars 21-7.

Into the second quarter with 10:59 on the clock J. Lampley had a 1 yard run for a Jaguar touchdown and C. Barajas kick was in, LA Tech 21, Southern 14. With 9:02 left in the second quarter the Bulldogs come back with Bonnette catching a 17 yard pass from Smith for the touchdown and Hale with the extra kick bringing the score Bulldogs 28, Jaguars 14. Nearing the end of the half with 0:05 seconds left Bailey Hale kicks a 24-yard field goal and the score at the half was LA Tech 31, Southern 14.

With 8:15 left in the third quarter the first scoring of the second half was a 22-yard field goal by C. Barajas and the score was then LA Tech 31, Southern 17. Bulldogs come back into play at 7:12 of the third quarter with a 32-yard rush by Jaqwis Dancy for the touchdown and Hale’s kick once again is good, score 38-17 Bulldogs. With 0:00 on the clock to end the third quarter Harris catches a 34-yard pass from Smith for the touchdown followed by Hale’s extra point. The score at the end of the third quarter LA Tech 45, Southern 17.

With 5:30 left in the game a team safety was completed by the Bulldogs bringing the score 47-17. The last score of the game occurred at 0:06 seconds with a touchdown by a 30 yard pass from Allen to Harris followed by the extra kick bringing the final score 54-17 Bulldogs.

On Saturday, September 22ndthe Bulldogs will see game time action again as they face off against LSU in Baton Rouge, kickoff time TBA. The Jaguars will face Langston at home next Saturday, September 15that 6pm.
