Southeastern Looks to Finish Spring Strong in Saturday’s Spring Game

HAMMOND, La. – As part of Super Lion Saturday, the Southeastern Louisiana football team will close out spring practice with the annual Spring Game at Strawberry Stadium.

Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Strawberry Stadium. Following the game, Southeastern head coach Frank Scelfo invites all fans on to the field to receive autographs and take pictures with the Lions and the coaching staff.

“We want our fans to know who important their support is to the success of our program,” Scelfo said. “We’re excited to give everyone an opportunity to interact with our players and coaches.”

The format of the game will be the offense (Green team) versus the defense (White team). The offense will score points in the traditional ways, while also receiving points for first downs, explosive plays and red zone trips. The defense will be awarded points for stops, three-and-outs, turnovers and sacks, in addition to the traditional ways of scoring.

“We’ve seen a lot of growth from our team this spring and it’s been a valuable evaluation period for our staff,” Scelfo said. “We’ve pushed each other with great competition on both sides of the ball and we’re pleased with how our players have responded to our expectations in regards to the tempo and energy we want to play with.”

For Scelfo’s Lions, spring practice has just been the first step in the process to preparing for a 2018 campaign that officially opens on Sept. 1.

“We’ve seen that our players have been able to learn in the meeting rooms and apply it to the field,” Scelfo said. “Now we want them to retain that information through the offseason and be ready to hit the ground running in the fall. As coaches, we’ll still be in an evaluation period as we try to find the best players we can to put on the field when we open the season.”

Saturday is also the beginning of 2018 football season ticket renewals. Fans will be able to purchase season tickets for the upcoming campaign at the Southeastern Athletics Ticket Office windows, located in the southwest corner of West Stadium next to the Billups Room from 1-3 p.m.

S Club members will be invited to the Victory Club for food and refreshments during the Spring Game. The reception will be open to S Club members, who will be limited to one guest.
