The Green Wave offense started strong, with QB Justin McMIllan flipping the field on a 41 yard rush on the 3rd play from scrimmage. Tulane would sputter a bit once inside the redzone, however would come up with a score with newly scholarship recipient Merek Glover nailing a 3 point try to give the Wave an early lead.
Memphis responded to the Tulane field goal with a methodical drive down field, which included 2 successful 4th down conversions, with the 2nd conversion resulting in a touchdown pass from Memphis QB Brady White to RB Kenneth Gainwell, putting the Tigers up 7-3 over the Green Wave.
Tulane looked to respond on offense, but a few plays into the possession Memphis’s Austin Hall snagged a 1 handed interception to give the Tiger offense another scoring opportunity. Memphis quickly made work of the turnover, with QB Brady White finding WR Calvin Austin for Brady’s second touchdown toss of the night.
McMillan kept things rolling for the Wave offense following the Memphis score. Justin McMillan threw a series of beautiful completions, driving the Wave offense into the redzone. After getting his touchdown run called back, McMillan did not falter, and picked up a Tulane touchdown with his legs, putting the Green Wave only 3 points behind the Memphis Tigers.
Memphis would respond to the Tulane scoring drive with one of their own. The Tulane defense had multiple opportunities to stop the Tiger offense, but Memphis continued to convert on 3rd and longs, eventually driving down inside the Tulane 10 yard line. QB Brady White completed a short shovel pass to TE Joey Magnifico for a touchdown, widening Memphis’s lead to 20-10 over Tulane.
Memphis would go on to score another touchdown before the end of the half. The Tiger offense put together a 10 play, 90 yard drive, which concluded in a 46 yard touchdown reception by Tiger WR Calvin Austin to put Memphis up 27-10 over the Wave.
Following the long scoring drive for Memphis, Tulane QB Justin McMillan would be picked off on the Green Wave’s first play of the drive. Memphis then made quick work of the turnover, scoring in 3 plays with Gainwell punching it in to put the Tigers up 34-10 going into the half.
Tulane’s defense finally stopped the Memphis offensive touchdown streak at the beginning of the 2nd half. Tulane held the Tigers to a field goal, giving the Tigers a 37-10 lead. Memphis would go on to attempt a questionable onside kick following the field goal, with Tulane recovering. Unfortunately for the Wave, McMillan and the offense would suffer a quick 3-and-out, giving the ball back to a Memphis offense who scored on every possession so far.
The nightmare for Tulane would continue for the remainder of the game. Memphis would go on to score 10 additional points while the Green Wave would find the endzone once more, giving a final score of 47-14 and a Memphis victory.
