Woodlawn Dominates McKinley 62-0 To Claim District Title

Woodlawn vs McKinley

It was a nice chilly Louisiana Friday night, a great setting for the Woodlawn Panthers week 10 and senior night home game against the McKinley High School Panthers at Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Woodlawn Panthers defense came out and got a stop on McKinley’s first drive of the game, they would get the ball back inside McKinley territory after a good punt return by junior wide receiver, Clayton Adams. Senior Running back Amani Givens picked up right where he left off against Catholic (BR) last week and came out with two strong runs capping the drive off with a 20-yard touchdown. The Panther defense would then get another stop and then junior quarterback Rickie Collins would throw a 40-yard touchdown to senior wide receiver, Kyle Jones. On the next McKinley drive junior safety, Dezaray Delmore Jr. would catch an interception and return it 30-yards for the touchdown to make it 21-0 Woodlawn in the first quarter. Then later in the first quarter junior quarter back Rickie Collins would find senior wide receiver Jaylon Henry on a short pass that he would take 15-yards for the touchdown to make it 28-0 Woodlawn in the beginning of the second quarter. The Woodlawn Panthers would dominate for the rest of the second quarter going into halftime with a 41-0 lead.

Woodlawn would take out most of their starters in the second half after dominating the first half. The next class of Woodlawn Panthers showed out on senior night as junior running back Jayveon Haynes came in relief of senior running back Amani Givens and had some really nice runs including a 55-yard touchdown to stretch the lead to 48. The Panthers would then turn to freshman and sophomore running backs by committee and scored on their next two possessions stretching the lead to 54. They continued their dominance in the second half pushing their lead to 62 and holding McKinley scoreless for the remainder of the game to hold onto the shutout. The Woodlawn Panthers moved to 5-4 on the season and will be crowned as the district champions after finishing district play 4-1.

The Woodlawn Panthers will start the playoffs next week as the home team, opponent TBA.
